In a world where climate change is causing more frequent and severe weather events, businesses certainly could use a crystal ball to navigate the Armageddon-style environment to protect their assets and people.

With the emergence of a strong El Nino phase, signalling a hot and dry summer with an increased likelihood of drought, heatwaves, and bushfires, the need for early warning systems becomes even more apparent.

Aussie pioneer Aeeris (ASX:AER) has come to the rescue with a sophisticated early warning system that draws upon some of the best climate modelling technology available in the country to provide accurate early warnings for various hazards, severe weather events and natural hazards which can disrupt business operations and put people in danger.

Extreme weather events pose significant challenges to a range of businesses, including insurance companies, agricultural producers, utility providers, telecommunications, and local councils.

Aeeris’ wholly owned subsidiary, the Early Warning Network, established what is arguably the world’s first location-based, multichannel warning system for all-natural hazards and weather back in 2007.

The Founder explains

Kerry Plowright, the founder and CEO of Aeeris, recently shed some light on his company’s operations during an interview with Fear and Greed.

He explained that Aeeris is the listed entity, and its wholly-owned subsidiary, the “Early Warning Network,” serves as the operational arm of the company. The core objective of this network is to provide precise warnings to individuals and businesses based on specific metrics and their geographic location.

Aeeris’ ‘secret sauce’ is its Geographic Notification Information System, which allows for the creation of highly accurate polygons to identify areas where impending events may occur.

These warnings can cover various hazards, from thunderstorms to heatwaves,, depending on the specific requirements of the recipients. The accuracy of these warnings is particularly impressive, down to within a metre of the likely location.

The tech helps a range of industries optimise their businesses by mitigating risk with accurate weather data. It can be used by insurance companies to optimise their operations for impending weather events.  For example, the system can forecast and track events in real-time , enabling insurers to make informed decisions on associated claims..

Logistics companies can plan alternate routes and adjust  operations based on weather conditions, while telcos can anticipate potential network disruptions.

Local councils in various Australian cities, including Parramatta and Newcastle, find the early warning system an efficient tool in enabling them to ensure public safety by preventing residents from taking inappropriate actions in response to extreme weather events.

Additionally, Early Warning Network’s technology is extremely valuable in preventing the destruction of outdoor assets such as vehicles and solar panels by alerting businesses to impending hailstorms and also allow them to plan for future risks by identifying high-risk areas for hail events.

As extreme weather events become increasingly common, Aeeris and its Early Warning Network are at the forefront of technology and innovation, helping businesses navigate the challenges posed by a rapidly changing climate.
